Mindful Schools’ Senior Program Developer Oren Jay Sofer will share tools to increase your ability to develop relationships of trust and cooperation, to speak with kindness without sacrificing clarity or effectiveness, and to build true partnership in the school community.

- Deescalate hostility and aggression
- Identify and express one’s needs in non-blaming ways with parents and faculty
- Describe student behavior in neutral terms, reducing defensiveness from parents

Oren Jay Sofer is a Certified Trainer of Nonviolent Communication and teaches communication and meditation nationally. He has practiced Buddhist meditation since 1997, holds a degree in Comparative Religion from Columbia University, and is a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner for trauma healing. Oren is also a member of the Spirit Rock Teachers’ Council, founder of Next Step Dharma, and the author of Say What You Mean: A Mindful Approach to Nonviolent Communication.
