BayNVC in action!

This summer, the BayNVC Empathy Team has gathered at the San Francisco Tea Party tax day protests, the Israel in the Gardens protests, the Mehserle verdict demonstrations in downtown Oakland (in cooperation with Oakland city officials), and at the 16th Street BART station in the Mission District to offer empathy support to the public.

We value deeply the experience of empathic awareness in our personal lives and social structures. Towards cultivating this experience, the BayNVC Empathy Team works as volunteer agents for transformation and peace. Together we plan activities that employ NVC principles so as to attend to whatever is alive in our public discourses, and in our hearts. The Empathy Team offers places where people can be heard and listened to, while at the same time providing an opportunity for volunteers to practice their NVC, build community, and share their enthusiasm for and knowledge of NVC with others.

We have worked at events like local farmers’ markets and festivals, as well as protests and demonstrations where people express frustration or dissatisfaction with the way things are. In every situation, we aim to provide others the experience of being seen and heard. We see our service as simply witnessing and providing a place of safety, caring and openness.
