BayNVC - Bay Area Nonviolent Communication
Want to Support BayNVC with your time?
BayNVC Volunteer and Work Exchange OpportunitiesIf you are interested in any of the following volunteer opportunities, please call our office or email nvc@baynvc.org with volunteer in the subject heading & let us know when would be a good time to contact you as well as what skills you'd like to offer.
Looking for Community Outreach Opportunities?
Weekend/Evening Event Registrar
We are looking to create a 'team' of people who will be on call to do registration and answer the door for weekend and evening classes. Ideally, you would stay for the session you are supporting. We are hoping you will be interested in attending at least 4 events this year (including more than one introductory evening).
Organizing Physical Space
Are you good at organizing space in a way that works for a large number of people? We are looking for someone who will come in weekly and create/restore order in our storeroom.
We also have dozens of people coming through our offices -- many of them leave dishes unwashed or washed but not put away (we share our office kitchen with other businesses in the building). Do you like to create order in the kitchen? We could use your skills one day a week tending to the kitchen -- this greatly supports us in having a beautiful place to be as well as supporting our relationship with our neighbors!
Regular Transportation Support Person for Conflict Hotline
One day a month, the first Thursday evening of the month, we are looking for someone who can bring supplies from our office in Oakland to the television studio in Berkeley & back again. (Quantity of supplies is slight, small car will be sufficient).
Spontaneous Errand Runner
Are you available on super-short notice? Do you have a car? Might you be willing to pick stuff up for us, shop prior to retreats or events, carry items from one location to another in the bay area? Are you super reliable time-wise? Might you be up for a run to the airport (SFO/OAK) to pickup or deliver traveling trainers?
Graphic Design
Create and update flyers and brochures, either at BayNVC or at your home or office. We use Adobe Creative Suite, so we prefer that the volunteers helping with this task have experience with InDesign software, although we also have Microsoft Publisher that you can use for creating flyers. Average of 1-3 hours per month.
Ongoing Office Support
One of our needs for support is volunteers who are comfortable working on a computer and interested in learning new computer skills to help with basic office tasks: answering phones, signing callers up for classes, entering data, etc. Have you had experience working in an office before? Do you enjoy answering phones? Are you available during "normal business hours"? Are you good with attention to detail? We are happy to train, and are hoping for minimum commitment of 4 hours weekly, for a period of at least 3 months.
Finance Office Support
The "office of nerdy pleasures" is looking for a few good reliable volunteers to help them crunch numbers. Are you good with attention to detail? Do you like to play with numbers? Like to talk to people about money? Like to enter occasional data into the computer, or support getting mailings out? Knowledge of Microsoft Word or Excel is a plus. The longer you are with us, the more helpful you become to us! (We are hoping you will commit to a minimum of 4 months/4 hours a week.)
Outreach Support
Help to promote and communicate about upcoming special events. Involves working with our database, sending group emails, and support tasks for mailing. These tasks are mostly computer based, and experience and ease working with Microsoft Excel, Word, OR Access is desired. Knowledge of Constant Contact is also helpful. 1-2 hours per week.
Photograph Work
Organize and prepare photos for use in printed and online materials, either at BayNVC or at your home or office. We prefer that the volunteers helping with this task have experience with Adobe Photoshop software. About 1-2 hours per month.
Paper Newsletter Mailing
Four times per year we do a mailing of a hardcopy newsletter. We would like to find a volunteer who can coordinate this task. About 10-15 hours every 3 months.
Occasional Office Support
With new programs beginning all year long, we often need help assembling binders, cutting out nametags etc. Occasionally there is more to do than our regular office volunteers can handle. Are you available on short notice? Would you like us to call you if we need additional support for this kind of task?
Phone Caller
We want to stay current with venues, volunteers and a variety of other groups of people. Occasionally our desire to call people exceeds our current capacity to be in touch with that many people. If you enjoy calling people, please let us know. A calling project could be spread out to a few hours a week or condensed to many hours in one week.
Help with Booking Workshop Space
This is a periodic task that could be done from home, checking with venues to see if they have available space for our retreats and workshops.
Rideshare Coordination for BayNVC Retreats
This is a periodic task that can be done from home. We have a regular rideshare coordinator at BayNVC who would train you and be available as a support person. If you think you may be interested in helping with this task, email either Lois(at)baynvc.org or nvc(at)baynvc.org
Call Screener for Conflict Hotline TV Show Manages the call-in aspect of the show. Receives calls and talks to callers before they go on the air with the host. Screens calls to ensure content that is relevant to the show. Gives instructions to callers for how to participate. Needed on the first Thursday of every month from 6:30 to 8:30.
If you are interested in any of the volunteer opportunities above, you may email us at nvc@baynvc.org or call our office at (510) 433-0700.
Community Outreach Opportunities
The BayNVC Empathy Team sets up Empathic Listening Posts at places like farmers’ markets and public festivals, as well as places where people experience stress, like hospitals, courthouses and protests. If you think you would enjoy contributing and practicing your NVC skills in this way, please send an e-mail to BayNVC Empathy Team.
