Sliding scale $30 – $50 per week. Please let me know if money is an obstacle and we can work something out.
“Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing and rightdoing,
there is a field. I’ll meet you there.”
The group will be a mixture of “request-driven” activities, including, but not limited to, group empathy. Group empathy provides a rich and relieving experience of “being heard” deeply, plus the connectedness to fundamental needs that allows participants to see more clearly what they want to do next in any given situation they’re facing.
Options for requests:
- Working with Newt 1-on-1
- Group empathy
- Role play involving the whole group
- Pair exercises – including pair empathy, connected conversation process
- Sections where I teach on a particular aspect of communication requested by someone in the group
- Celebrations of where communication is happening for you in a way you’re enjoying
Who’s it for?
The group is open to all. If you’re new to NVC it’s important to be aware that the form of request-driven, practice-based learning we use means that in these online group coaching sessions we don’t follow a step-by-step approach to presenting the essentials of NVC. This means that most people who participate tend to already have a grounding in the foundational ideas and skills: self-connection, empathy for others, self-expression, observations, feelings, needs and requests. If you’d like to attend but you’ve not previously taken lessons in Nonviolent Communication I recommend either attending the Monday evening Communication Dojo drop-in classes, if you’re local to San Francisco, or finding introductory classes in your area (through baynvc.org/events, cnvc.org, your local NVC organization, or NVC Academy online). I also recommend reading “Nonviolent Communication – A Language of Life” by Marshall Rosenberg Ph.D. as a way of supporting your learning. Alternatively view videos on this site or do a search for “NVC” or “Nonviolent Communication” on YouTube to find other learning resources.
About Newt Bailey
Newt’s passion is to help people connect, to experience greater intimacy, and to find the potential for mutually satisfying change that lies within conflict. He is also convinced that personal growth and change in consciousness is essential if we’re to bring about the changes we want to see in our communities and our world.
Since he started studying NVC in 2005 Newt has set out to understand and share with others the essential core of NVC. He believes strongly in teaching the principles of NVC in a way that frees students from specialized language, and allows facility with connected communication to grow in small, quickly assimilated steps. Newt teaches the NVC practices, skills and awareness he uses in his own life.
Since 2006 Newt has been facilitating NVC groups, leading workshops and retreats, and developing his unique approach in public and organizational settings. Newt also attributes great steps in his personal understanding of NVC to working with prisoners and parolees. He has taught NVC, NVC mediation and NVC coaching across the USA and in Europe.
Online – we’ll be using the “Zoom” software, although there will be also the option of calling in a regular phone.
