About the Trainers
Oren and Evan’s passion for communication in healthcare is informed by their personal experiences with chronic illness, and their deep and long-standing interest in health and well-being. In this free webinar, they share their combined expertise in mindfulness, interpersonal communication and healing.
Oren J. Sofer has been practicing mindfulness meditation and Nonviolent Communication for two decades, and teaching nationally for the past ten years. His work integrating awareness into the field of communication stands at the cutting edge of interpersonal studies. He is a Collaborative Trainer at BayNVC, Senior Program Staff at Mindful Schools, and author of the forthcoming book, Three Steps to Better Conversations: A Guide to Mindful Communication. Oren is also trained and certified in Somatic Experiencing for healing trauma and holds a degree in Comparative Religion from Columbia University.
Evan Wong is a Palliative Care Chaplain at University of California San Francisco Medical Center and Kaiser Permanente, where she collaborates with doctors, social workers, and nurses to provide whole-person care to those with serious illness. She is endorsed by the Insight Meditation Center of the Mid-Peninsula where she is also a trained mentor in mindfulness practice. Evan brings over ten years of Buddhist meditation and Nonviolent Communication training to her work in hospitals, supporting patients in their healing process through presence, empathy, interfaith Pastoral Care and counseling.
